AMAZING WORDS for all my Fans !!

Hey people,

How are you doing ?

Each one of you coming to my Website, Blog, Twitter, MySpace and Facebook, come from different corners of the world. I feel really blessed to know and interact with each one of you, through my music. And many of you frequently through email, phone calls, BlackBerry messenger and Skype. :-)

Music crosses the miles we have between us, the seas, the oceans, the deserts, the cities and even time zones!! Yet music keeps us connected.

Just like you, I've gone through a lot of my share of ups and downs, sadness and pain, joys and sorrows, feelings of ecstasy and depressions. I've come across people whom I love more than life itself, some really stood by me, while others, who promised would be always there - just could not stand up and fight the situation. Though I still wait for the moment when they will realize. I do this because music has taught me to forgive them for their inadequacies.

But no matter who you are, or which part of the world you are from, whether you are male or female, whether you are Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jew, Sikh or Parsi (forgive me if I've missed some) .... we are all connected through "music and lyrics".

That's why I'm taking the time out to write these few words for you, to let you all know I care and to share this wonderful video with you. Please take out just 10 minutes of your time, but do hear and think about what's in this video.

You are most welcome to send in your comments and tell me what you think.

Love you all ....

MOKKSHA.

Album Review: Cocktail (2012) - Genre: Bollywood

Bollywood's new product, Hindi Movie "COCKTAIL" .... looks quite promising from the promos and music I have heard. It begs to differ from the seemingly humbug that has been churned out by Bollywood in recent times. I have hopes from it, let's hear the tracks and give you my take on it ......

Okay, now we're talking music .... I specially have a liking for "Tum Hi Ho Bandhu" which has been crooned by Neeraj Shridhar & Kavita Seth. It's crips, fresh, catchy and fun to listen to. Easily the best track of the album which will be a favorite in the coming weeks and the track will be squeezed of it's juices on all radio and television stations.

A track named "Daru Desi" was one that initially caught my attention, specially since I'm a Delhiite, and we Delhi people just can't seem to get enough of our fix of "daru" and "butter chicken" ... Ha ha ha , that said, this track lacked the zing, it could have been much better. Something on the lines of "Aye Ganpat" from "Shootout at Lokhandwala".

"Yaariyaan", is available in the album in the original avatar, along with a reprise version. My thumbs up definetly, goes for the reprise version. Sunidhi Chauhan & Arijit Singh do the vocals here. Sunidhi's voice does full justice to the reprise version, and at times reminds me of her style in the lovely tracks of "Chameli". Arijit Singh sounds, fresh and with some luck this guy could go a long way in Bollywood with more soulful romantic numbers.

"Second Hand Jawaani". What can I possibly say about this track. The name itself indicates it's a saucy, raunchy number, fit for a sleazy dance number featuring someone like Rakhi Sawant. Not a great track, unless of course you are completely drunk and dancing with partly torn clothes at a Holi gathering!!

"Tera Naam Japdi Phiran", turn out to be another big disappointment with below average lyrics and music. It comes along with it's sibling "Tera Naam Japdi Phiran (Version 2)". Not something I have much to say about.

"Luttna (Saif Ul Malook)", a sufi-qawwali style track with some distinct DnB style influences thrown in between. This track is also available in a second version - humourously called "Luttna (Version 2)". The lyrical verses of the track are manageable, however, the choruses are way to loud and jarring, specially in the original version, where they act like the morning alarm during the calm sleep of the early morning hours. I personally feel a fusion band like Indian Ocean may have done a good job of this track with their sound - the lyrics seem to suggest that.

"Jugni", as the name suggests is a track with Punjabi lyrics. I don't know why, but as I hear this track I can't help wish that this was voiced by Rabbi Shergill. His voice would have added the magic to this track - that little zing that is missing in Arif Lohar's voice.

That's about all we have for COCKTAIL. Let's see how the movie fares at the box-office, however, as I mentioned at the very start "Tum Hi Ho Bandhu" takes it all the way, and will be the track used for marketing this movie to the box-office.

Love,

MOKKSHA

"Silent Parties" - To Be or Not To Be ?

"Silent Parties" .... I came across this write up on the Times of India recently, hmmm well to start with there should be no such thing as a "silent" party. Parties are all about having fun, making some noise and sharing stuff together, not being stuck up with a headphone in some corner. That's what your ipod is for mate !!

Yes, as a change, for a one off day, it may be fun, different or seem stylish to be dancing crazily to the tunes from a headphone. But it's not something that's here to stay. And especially if it's a party where there are more than one DJ's playing on different frequency bands on the headsets.

Not to mention high volumes on a headset are even more dangerous to the listener that the effects of a large club sound system. Everyone I'm sure remembers the movies "It's All Gone Pete Tong" and the recent Bollywood flick "Soundtrack" where the Dj goes down due to Tinnitus. Now I'm sure you don't want that happening to your ears do you?

All that said, a true DJ knows there is nothing like the energy of a packed dance floor, with everyone dancing to the same tune, sharing love, music and smiles. The energy of high energy sound systems is what makes it fun, and my verdict is a big "NO" to so called "Silent Headphone Parties".

Peace out!

METALLICA: Concert @ Gurgaon - Cancelled?

I've been reading blogs, online news websites and comments coming up on Twitter, about the cancellation of Metallica's concert in Gurgaon (New Delhi). There seems to be a lot of frustration and its branched off to a debate between south Indians blaming north Indians for putting up inappropriate behavior. Let's get facts right here, rather than blaming each other or starting off an argument that Delhi (or North India) is bad and Bangalore (or South India) is great.

Each place has it own pros and cons. The issues we faced with a pub being attacked by a mob in Mangalore on Jan 24, 2009, by certain activists and then again a Mysore pub on Saturday, Aug 14 of the same year, suggests the presence of a lot of intolerant people - be it north, south, east or west India. (Plz reference: http://www.dnaindia.com/bangalore/report_sri-rama-sene-men-target-mysore-pub_1424009). There are other issues too of forcing clubs to close at 11 pm and ban dancing and such ridiculous stuff.

The point here is the fault of the event organizers. They take money from the public, and then do not deliver. It's their job to bring the artists, ensure that the artistes (in this case Metallica), are comfortable and happy with the arrangements and security. Make sure logistics are right and then go ahead with the show as per schedule. The organizers fail to realize that they can make their money but they also need to give the artist and fans a memorable experience. Only then would more shows be a hit.

Whatever has happened, will surely leave an impression on the mind of  Metallicas team members. They will blog and tweet about it and what not. The organizers have not put north or south India to shame they have just put India to shame. Everyone will say India cannot handle such events, they would not see that fans went beserk because the organizers ticked them off.

I noticed a comment on Times of India's Online Edition by some one named Anantharaman (Bangalore), to quote him "People in Delhi, Gurgaon and adjoining areas should listen to Bollywood Music ( Kumar Sanu Types) not Heavy Metal!!!! " - All I can reply is mate - get your facts right - Kumar Sanu has long gone, we now have people like Sonu Nigam, Hard Kaur, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shahid Mallya who are among the new voice of Bollywood :-)

Music is music, and a true fan does not degrade another form or genre of music or each other as Indians. That said, a true fan does not vandalize their favorite bands property either. One would wait for the band they truly love. Just as they do abroad.

I feel sorry for Metallica, the guys were very excited, they were clicking pics just before their show yesterday hoping for a great night (See: http://www.metallica.com/tour/oct-28-2011-delhi.asp).

As of now, as per Metallica's Official Website, it all seems cancelled for Delhi  ....

REVIEW : Tyrese "STAY" feat. Taraji P. Henson

Tyrese "STAY" (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) feat. Taraji P. Henson

Tyrese Darnell Gibson better known as Tyrese, is an American R & B singer, rapper, actor, author, a former fashion model and an MTV VJ. After releasing a couple of albums, he transitioned into films, with lead roles in several Hollywood movies. Tyrese's career began when he was discovered on a bus. An appearance in the all-so-famous 1994 Coca-Cola advertisement, singing the phrase "Always Coca-Cola", led to bigger fame.

Tyrese is making a comeback with his album "Open Invitation" released 1.11.11 with a lot of fresh new sounds. "Stay" and "Too Easy", the latter featuring Ludacris are the tracks toi look out for are are now available on I-Tunes for digital download.

The official music video for the single "STAY" starring Tyrese Gibson and Taraji P. Henson is directed by Matt Alonzo. R & B music is making a lovely comeback with this melodious love song. This kind of stuff is definetly his calling, and a must for all those involved in a romantic relationship. The official video is simple yet sweet and you can clearly see the passionate chemistry between Tyrese & Taraji.

All I can say is this one gets 3.5 stars out of 5 from me. Listen enjoy, and definetly concentrate on the lyrics which are meaningful and point all you guys in the right direction - about treating your girl.

RELAX: With Music Therapy

Music can heal. Music therapist Stuti Chandok's music centre heals people through music. Music is a non-invasive intervention that is most effective when words don't seem good enough.

"Music therapy is for people who can't express themselves with words. It can be therapeutic for older adults and children. Music therapy is the perfect way to socialise and get some pain relief too. Not only does it entertain depressed people but it uplifts them too. As a therapist, I know my patient's needs and make sure I help them with individual therapy," says Stuti Chandok.

Turkish doctors use music as medicine also. This technique makes the patients look at life more positively.

Here's how you can heal with music
  • Choose a piece of music that is specifically very rhythmic. Preferably music that has only drums and percussion.
  • Visualise the issue that is bothering you and beat at it. Exaggerate movements in the air.
  • Continue till the music ends.
  • Relax and allow your breathing to normalise.
  • Choose another piece of music, preferably a song that inspires or motivates you.
  • Relax. Sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes.
  • Visualise and focus on all your strengths.
  • After the music ends, bring your thoughts back to the room.
  • Draw all that you saw or thought on a paper.
  • These two exercises will help you feel better. However, music therapy is most effective under the supervision of a trained professional.
