RELAX: With Music Therapy

Music can heal. Music therapist Stuti Chandok's music centre heals people through music. Music is a non-invasive intervention that is most effective when words don't seem good enough.

"Music therapy is for people who can't express themselves with words. It can be therapeutic for older adults and children. Music therapy is the perfect way to socialise and get some pain relief too. Not only does it entertain depressed people but it uplifts them too. As a therapist, I know my patient's needs and make sure I help them with individual therapy," says Stuti Chandok.

Turkish doctors use music as medicine also. This technique makes the patients look at life more positively.

Here's how you can heal with music
  • Choose a piece of music that is specifically very rhythmic. Preferably music that has only drums and percussion.
  • Visualise the issue that is bothering you and beat at it. Exaggerate movements in the air.
  • Continue till the music ends.
  • Relax and allow your breathing to normalise.
  • Choose another piece of music, preferably a song that inspires or motivates you.
  • Relax. Sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes.
  • Visualise and focus on all your strengths.
  • After the music ends, bring your thoughts back to the room.
  • Draw all that you saw or thought on a paper.
  • These two exercises will help you feel better. However, music therapy is most effective under the supervision of a trained professional.
